Koi Fish Pond in Calicut, Kerala: A Serene Oasis
In-house designed and constructed, this Koi pond accommodates 30 Japanese Koi, each measuring 90 centimetres or more, with meticulous tailoring.
The pond’s water volume totals an impressive 37 cubic meters, inclusive of the water within the bio-reactor chamber. The filtration system’s key features include a bio-mechanical filter, UV and hydrocyclone pre-filter, and an efficient bio-reactor.
Reinforced concrete with 8mm rebar forms the pond structure; Bostik epoxy over fine cement deters algae in the lining.
Minimize water loss during backwashing, while promoting beneficial bacteria growth – the concept behind this efficient filtration system. This system includes vital components: a multi-cyclone system, a three-stage biological reactor, a 240 LPM aerator, and a 300-watt UV clarifier.
Filter System
The primary filter pump is a variable-speed model, allowing for customizable flow rates to meet specific filtration requirements. Furthermore, you can integrate the filtration system with home automation, allowing remote monitoring from anywhere in the world.
The bio-mechanical system, with a pre-filter, efficiently removes dirt and fish debris, ensuring only clean water returns through directional inlets.
Further natural water treatment takes place within the three-stage biofilter chamber, thanks to various beneficial bacteria.
Consuming only 200 watts, including the motor and UV unit, pond cleaning is swift, taking no more than 10 minutes.
The mechanical filtration system features a multi-cyclone system with variable flow rates from 2.5 to 18 cubic meters per hour.
Landscaping
Integrated into the landscape alongside a long driveway, this Koi pond offers an idyllic spot to admire thriving fish.
Not only does this Koi fish pond provide a pristine environment for the fish, but it also creates a picturesque and tranquil spot for the homeowner and their guests to enjoy.
It’s important to note that Koi fish ponds differ significantly from water gardens, as they demand regular care and maintenance, including water testing and routine filter backwashing.
The biological filtration process began with the introduction of a pond starter kit from API, followed by the addition of test fish. Regular water quality checks consistently yielded satisfactory results, with all water parameters remaining within the normal range.
Before introducing new fish into the main Koi fish pond, strongly recommend a strict quarantine period of 1 to 2 weeks in a separate or temporary tank. Maintain optimal oxygen levels by ensuring adequate aeration through a high-pressure air compressor delivering 240 LPH.
To further safeguard the fish from infections, a UV water clarifier has been employed, effectively removing harmful bacteria and viruses while also controlling algae growth, resulting in pristine water clarity.
